Chandigarh: BJP candidate Pawan Saini faced public protests during his campaign in Narayangarh, Haryana. On Sunday night, farmers held him hostage for nearly two hours.

In response, Ambala SP personally arrived at the scene to manage the situation. To disperse the angry villagers, police had to use lathicharge.

Narayangarh is the home constituency of Chief Minister Naib Saini, who is contesting from Ladwa this time. Pawan Saini, previously a contender for Ladwa, is running from Narayangarh.

On Sunday evening, while heading to Fatehgarh with a convoy, farmers blocked his path by parking tractors around him. He was trapped for over an hour as farmers threatened to run him over with their tractors, causing an uproar.

Upon receiving the news, SP Surendra Bhauria arrived with a large BJP force. After lathicharging the crowd, they safely rescued Pawan Saini. The police are now investigating the incident.

Earlier that day, farmers also protested against BJP candidate Anil Vij in Ambala Cantt. He was forced to end his meeting and leave.

Vij has since lodged a complaint with the Election Commission and Director General of Police, naming some of the protesting farmers.
