Prayagraj, 23 April (HS): In a shocking incident, five members of a family were killed in the early hours on Saturday in Khaiwajpur village. After initial investigations, police said unidentified killers used sticks and bricks to eliminate the family. A portion of the house was also set on fire.

The deceased have been identified as Ram Kumar Yadav (55), his wife Kusum Devi (52), daughter Manisha (25), daughter-in-law Savita (27) and granddaughter Minakshi (2). On receiving information about the murders, the police reached the spot with a dog squad and forensic team to collect samples. The bodies have been sent for post mortem.

Another granddaughter Sakshi (5), who was sleeping in another room, has been spared by the attackers, an official informed.

A senior police official said, ‘We have been probing the incident thoroughly and five police teams have been formed to crack the incident.’ The reason behind the killings was still unknown. However, their primary objective was to commit loot. Police has not ruled the rape of women members of the family.

Ram Kumar Yadav was in the trade of buying and selling animals. His son had gone to attend a marriage in Prayagraj city and is now one of the two survivors, granddaughter Sakshi who had been spared by attackers under mysterious circumstances.

Heavy police arrangements were being made at the village to maintain law and order. SSp Prayagraj Ajay Kumar said, a case had been registered and further investigation into the incident is underway. The SSP assured that the accused would be arrested soon.
