Congressmen lathi charged
Patna 24 Nov (HS): Police resorted to lathi charge, tear gassing and water cannon on Congress leaders and workers on Sunday here after they shattered the barricades put up to stop the Jan Vedna March in protest of centre’s policies, unemployment, price rise and law and order situation in Bihar. This is the first time that congress staged a forceful and a little violent protest in Bihar on its own . Congress leader and Bihar incharge Shakti Sinh Gohil and many senior leaders apart from women workers were present. Many of them were detained. Also the same day the workers of Jan Adhikar Party also took out a separate rally against the government. The workers led by part chief Rajesh Ranjan aka Pappu Yadav were also caned near Hartali More when they pushed the police force in bid to proceed further by breaking the barricades. Some Congress women workers were seen crying after what they said after being beaten up. Congress leader Minnat Rahmani alleged, “the police has failed to arrest criminals and check crime but they are thrashing us when we are taking out peaceful march on public issues.” Bihar Congress chief Madan Mohan Jha and senior functionary Premier Chandra Mishra were among the leaders detained and taken to police station. Senior MLA Ramdev Rai fell from police jeep when taken to police station and sustained minor injuries.
