Lucknow,  17 April  (HS) :      Amid the rising cases of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi-led government has ordered to set up bio-safety level 2 (BSL-2) laboratories in four districts- Jaunpur, Ballia, Ghazipur and Pratapgarh to ramp up the pace of RT-PCR testing across the state.

The BSL-2 laboratories for RT-PCR testing will be helpful in the fight against COVID-19 and other vector-borne diseases as they are efficient to conduct over 5,000 tests per day.

Reviewing the current coronavirus pandemic situation, CM Adityanath also directed the officials to identify the hotspots and intensify the covid-19 testing and undertake about 2.25  lakh Covid tests  everyday.

According to DG Medical and Health, Dr DS Negi, an Expert Committee on behalf of the Department was constituted to discuss the prime issues regarding the speed of the transmission of coronavirus and the testing capacity. After the meeting, two proposals have been sent to the government. The proposals are regarding planned covid testing and discharge of asymptomatic patients or patients having mild symptoms after a week of recovery with proper home isolation procedure so that beds could be made available to patients in critical conditions.

“If adequate facility for home isolation exists, and the person on clinical assessment is found to have no comorbidities and does not require hospitalisation, he would be offered to opt for home isolation,” the proposal said.

Testing to be made accessible to people developing influenza-like symptoms

DG Medical and Health, Dr DS Negi further informed that testing facilities will be available to every person developing influenza- like symptoms. For proper treatment of people having traces of coronavirus in their blood reports, a provision has been made to get them admitted to the hospitals.

“Medicines such as Paracetamol, Doxycycline, Ivermectin, Vitamin C, Zinc and Azithromycin will be made available to every person suspecting covid even if the condition is not serious”, asserted Dr Negi.
