New Delhi, Oct 24(HS): The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has withdrawn the decision to sack of 25000 homeguards. The Home Department issued orders on Thursday and restored the services of the Home Guards. The services of Homeguards will continue till the next order.
The Yogi Adityanath government, which was under pressure due to the Supreme Court’s order to give home guards equal pay to police constables terminated the service of 25,000 home guards posted in Uttar Pradesh Police Department.
In the order issued by the administration, it was said that 25,000 home guards have been relieved of their obligations. While issuing the order, Additional Director General (ADG) BP Jogdand said that the decision to terminate the service of 5,000 home guards were taken on August 28 this year in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh. Thousands of home guards would have to lose their regular employment too, as the state government reduced the number of days from 25 to 15 for reporting.
The state government spokesman said that this decision was taken due to financial constraints. The Supreme Court, in its order, ordered the daily allowance of Uttar Pradesh Home Guards to be equal to the Police Constable of the state.
Most home guards in Uttar Pradesh are deployed for the traffic management system, after the move of the state government, there could have been difficulties in handling the traffic system. The Home Department had appointed 25,000 home guards to fill the vacancies in the police department a year ago.
Homeguards earlier used to get a daily allowance of Rs 500, which was reduced to Rs 672 after the Supreme Court order. It is believed that this was affecting the budget of Uttar Pradesh Police. Home Guards do not have any fixed monthly salary and honorarium is given on the basis of days of duty.
