Yogi Cabinet approves Police Commissionerate system for Varanasi & Kanpur

Lucknow,  25 March (HS) :The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to implement Police Commissionerate system in Varanasi and Kanpur too. The Yogi Cabinet also gave its nod to the proposal of the government to this effect on Thursday. The Police Commissioner system is already implemented in Lucknow and Noida.

UP’s Additional Chief Secretary Home Awanish Kr Awasthi said that the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the police commissionerate system for Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kanpur.

As per police commissioner system both the districts will be divided in two parts such as Varanasi City and Varanasi Rural, Kanpur City and Kanpur Outer. In Varanasi City there will be 18 police stations while Varanasi Rural will have 10 police stations. In Kanpur City and Kanpur Outer the number of police stations will be 34 and 11 respectively.

It may be mentioned here that the Yogi Government had implemented the police commissioner system in Lucknow and Noida in January 2020. The Government is likely to implement this system in other cities two in third phase. This system gives more powers to the police officers.
