Women’s health contributes to wellbeing of society: Guv Biswa Bhusan Harichandan

Andhra Pradesh: Amaravathi: October 26 (HS) Participating as Chief Guest at the Conference on Women’s Health, organized by Mahila Aroyga Vikas of Vikasatarangini, a women’s health mission launched by H.H. Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, at Siddhartha Auditorium, Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan said women’s health is intrinsically linked to their status in society and poor health conditions affects not only women but their families also. He said women’s health contributes to human wellbeing of the society and the economic growth of a country.

The Governor said it is not only essential to celebrate Mother’s Day and women’s day but it is also important to provide them equal access to health services. Governor Harichandan said community programmes, such as the health screening camps being organized by Mahila Arogya Vikas can lead to a greater improvement in women’s health and supplement direct medical intervention programmes implemented by the government.

The Governor said the right to health is a fundamental right of every citizen and the poorer health indices of half the population is definitely a cause for concern.The Governor said spread of awareness about cancer among women is very much essential and they should be encouraged to undergo regular health check-ups, while motivating them to lead a healthy lifestyle and providing them access to adequate cancer treatment and services.

Governor appreciated the key role played by the Mahila Arogya Vikas in the cause of women’s health by organizing more than 1000 cancer awareness camps covering 10 lakh women through 2.5 lakh VIA tests of cervical and breast screening besides conducting ultra-scan, mammography, FNAC, biopsies and surgeries – all at free of cost and congratulated Dr. Madhavi Ravindra, Central Coordinator of the organisation. The Governor said screening and diagnostic tests conducted on women for early detection of cancer plays a major role in starting early treatment and remission of the disease. Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, Former Minister Dr. Kamineni Srinivas, Former MP Dr. G. Ganga Raju, Dr. M.C. Das, Ravindra Sekhar, Smt. Madhavi Ravindra, Koneru Durga Prasad, have also attended the programme.
