The Karnataka High Court will decide today on actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s plea for interim bail. He is currently imprisoned for his alleged role in the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy.

BAIL PLEA ON MEDICAL GROUNDS
The court reserved its order on Tuesday after hearing both sides. Darshan’s legal team argued that he needs bail for spine surgery. They presented medical reports showing he experiences numbness in both feet. Darshan seeks permission to undergo the procedure at a private facility in Mysuru, which he will finance.

However, the state prosecutor opposed the bail. They argued that the medical documents did not clarify how long Darshan would need to stay hospitalized. They suggested he could get the surgery at a government hospital instead.

Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty referred to Supreme Court precedents, stating that the state cannot dictate where an undertrial receives treatment. Still, he questioned why Darshan chose Mysuru. “Why Mysuru? Let a doctor in Bengaluru assess the surgery’s urgency and duration,” he noted. “Interim bail is time-limited, and we need to understand how long you would be hospitalized.”

This plea follows a previous bail application that the sessions court rejected on September 21. Darshan was moved to Bellary Jail after a controversial photo surfaced with a known rowdy-sheeter. This incident led to the suspension of seven officials at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.

The murder case involves a dispute over inappropriate messages sent by Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan’s, to Pavithra Gowda, a friend of the actor. According to police, this dispute allegedly led Darshan to orchestrate an attack on Renukaswamy. His body was later discovered near a storm drain in Sumanahalli on June 9. Another accused, Raghavendra, reportedly lured Renukaswamy to a shed in R.R. Nagar under the pretense that Darshan wanted to meet him. There, he was allegedly tortured and killed. The post-mortem report revealed that Renukaswamy died from shock and hemorrhage caused by multiple blunt injuries.
