New Delhi, Feb 23 (HS): West Indies fined 40 percent of their match fee for maintaining slow over rate in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Saturday.
Match referee Javagal Srinath imposed the sanctions after the Caribbean side was ruled two overs short of target when the time allowances were taken into consideration. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Sri Lanka won the thrilling tournament opener by one wicket to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second ODI of the three-match series will be played in Hambantota on Wednesday.
