West Bengal governor pays tribute to Bankim Chandra Chatterjee
Kolkata, June 27 (HS) Governor Jagdeep Dhankar paid tribute to famous poet and journalist Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on his birth anniversary. He has said that the nation will always remember Chatterjee’s contribution in the Indian society.
On Saturday, Dhankar took to Twitter and said, “Remembering Bankimchandra Chatterjee, novelist, poet and journalist on his birth anniversary. Nation would be ever beholden to him for composing Vande Mataram, personifying India as a mother goddess and inspiring activists of Indian Independence Movement.”
Bankimchandra Chatterjee or Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay, was born on June 26, 1838. He was the composer of Vande Mataram. Chattopadhyay wrote 13 novels and many serious, satirical, scientific and critical treatises in Bengali. He breathed his last on April 8, 1894.
