‘We Could Have Won’: Rahul Gandhi’s Fiery Remarks at Haryana Poll Review
Rahul Gandhi’s message was sharp and direct at the Haryana poll review meeting, held at Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence. Observers like Ajay Maken, Ashok Gehlot, Deepak Babaria, and KC Venugopal were present. While Gandhi remained mostly quiet, when he spoke, he made two key points.
First, he raised concerns over the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Election Commission (EC). He demanded a detailed report on the counting process, hinting at possible discrepancies. However, it was his second point that left the room in silence. Gandhi emphasized that the Haryana Congress could have won the election. He strongly criticized the local leaders for focusing more on personal gains than the party’s success. Frustrated by their finger-pointing at EVMs, he said the leaders were busy fighting among themselves instead of thinking about the party’s progress. After delivering this message, Gandhi walked out.
This isn’t the first time infighting has cost Congress an election. Similar issues plagued Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. Despite Gandhi’s efforts to unite leaders like Kumari Selja and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, internal clashes persisted. As Congress now faces similar problems in Maharashtra, Gandhi’s challenge is to prevent infighting from derailing future elections.
In response to media speculation, the Congress announced the formation of a committee to investigate the election results. Additionally, a technical team will review complaints from candidates and address discrepancies.
