Water crisis: Kerala ready to give 20 lakh liters of water daily, Tamil Nadu rejects offer
Chennai/Thiruvananthapuram, June 21 (HS): The Kerala government claimed that its proposal to provide 20 lakh liters of drinking water daily to Tamil Nadu has been rejected by the AIMMK government. On behalf of Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan’s office, it was told that Tamil Nadu refused the offer saying ‘do not need help anymore’.
At the same time DMK chief MK Stalin has urged the Tamil Nadu government to work closely with Kerala to help the people. Stalin expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister of Kerala for this offer. To deal with the water crisis, the Chennai Authority has reduced the supply of water by 40 percent while the four reservoirs located around Chennai have reached the brink of drying, due to monsoon rains. The second reason for water crisis is the ongoing Kaveri river dispute with Karnataka.
Earlier, the Chief Minister’s Office had issued a statement saying, “As the major reservoirs of Chennai are facing shortage of water, in such a situation, the Government of Kerala has decided to extend the help.”
Pinarai Vijayan wrote on a Facebook post, “In response to our proposal, Tamilnadu has said that we have enough water. There is no need for additional help from Kerala. “
