Veteran Kannada Poet KS Nisar Ahmed no more

Bengaluru,03 May(HS): Kokkare Hosahalli Sheikh Haider Nissar Ahmed more popularly known as KS Nissar Ahmed or KSN to his students and admirers passed away today at his residence at Padmanabhanagar in the city. He was 84 years old.

Prof KS Nissar Ahmed was suffering from cancer and was also admitted to the hospital some time back. Recently he lost his son who had settled in the United States.
Thanks to his poem “Jogada Siri Belakinalli…” on the world-famous Jog Falls on the Sharavathi River falling from a majestic height of 829 feet in Shivamogga district, he came to be fondly called as the “Nityotsava Poet”.
He was born in Devanahalli of Bengaluru Rural district on 05 February in 1936. He was a Post Graduate in Geology and served as  Geology lecturer and later as Professor in several government colleges until he retired in 1994.
His stint with literature began while he was only a 10 years school going, student and his first poem on the Water Falls was printed in the Newspaper.
He has published 21 poem collections, 14 analytical works, Five children literature books, Five works of translation and 13 volumes as an Editor.
His first Audio Cassette of poems hit the market during 1978 and there was no looking back as he brought another dozen audio albums later. Some of his poems also became hit film songs.
He was a recipient of most of the top state honours apart from being the President of the annual All India Kannada Literary Conference held under the auspices of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, a pioneering institute for the cause of the native language.
