Los Angeles, Jan 03 (HS) : Gen. Qassim Soleimani, head of Iran’s elite Quds force, has been killed in an airstrike at Baghdad’s airport. Strike also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of militias known as Popular Mobilization Forces. PMF blamed the United States for the airstrike.

The Iraqi the militia said that eight people were killed in this airstrike, including the head of the Elite Quds Force, Iranian Major General Qasim Sulemani, Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. Iran-backed militia spokesman Ahmed al-Assadi said, “American and Israeli enemies are responsible for killing Mujahideen Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Kasem Soleimani.”

Abu Mehdi al-Muhadish, the head of a group of Iran-backed Iraqi military personnel, is also said to have been killed in the attack. It was a survey of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Force in Iraq. However, Iran has not confirmed this. On the other hand, after this latest development, US President Donald Trump has instructed the American army to be ready.

Iraq Security Media Cell has informed that three Katusha rockets were fired one after the other in the attack. It is being told that Sulemani’s convoy was heading towards Baghdad Airport, during which this air raid took place. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was treating General Suleimani as the equivalent of the head of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Sulaimani was considered a very powerful leader in Iran.

It is not yet clear which group the rockets were fired from. In response to the activities of Iran-backed Iraqi military personnel in the Gulf, US Defense Minister Mark T Esper has said that the US may attack Iran-backed fighters even before time. He has said that the Iraqi government is not providing adequate security to the US embassy and its diplomats and staff.
