UP to transfer government land to expedite setting of DI corridor
Lucknow,July 15(HS)The Uttar Pradesh cabinet which met here on Monday took a major decision to help timely completion of mega indusrtrial project in the state– defence industrial corridor.It decided to hand over 45 hectare of government land in Aligarh district to the industrial development department which is implementing the project .It is expected to attract investment of of over Rs 20,000 crores.
Land was a major constraint which could delay the project lauched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February last.Proposals for investment of over Rs 4000 in the corridor were received within three months of the launching.
The scheme,second of its kind in the country, will change the landscape of arid Bundelkhand region in the state.The first such project was launched in Tamil Nadu.
About 5000 hectares of land has been identified for the corridor.Efforts are on acquire additional land.The agriculture department has not made any demand for the land to be handed over to industrial development department in Aligarh district.
The defence industrial corridor which will pass through six districts from Aligarh to Kanpur will cover Agra,Jhansi and Chitrakoot,besides others.
Kanpur Indian Institute of Technology or IIT is the technology partner. The UP government also has fast-tracked the Bundelkhand Expressway project which will connect Chitrakoot to Lucknow. It will boost connectivity to the defence industrial corridor which will create large employment opportunity.
