UP Panchayat Polls, HC rules 2015 as base year for reservation of seats
Lucknow, 15 March (HS) :The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has ruled that the base year for applying reservation on seats for three tier Panchayat Polls in Uttar Pradesh will be 2015.
The Advocate General of the UP Government Raghvendra Singh also told the court that the state Government has no objection in applying 2015 as the base year for reservation in panchayat polls.
In the light of Advocate General’s statement the Division Bench of Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justice Manish Mathur ruled that the base year for applying the reservation will be 2015. The court also ordered to complete the reservation process by March 27 and conduct three tier panchayat polls till May 25.
One Ajai Kumar had filed a PIL challenging the Government Order dated February 11, 2021 regarding reservation of seats for Panchayat Polls.
In the petition it was stated that the state government is applying 1995 as the base year in the reservation process for the panchayat polls in contravention of the notification issued by the government itself in 2015.
