Lucknow, 19 January (HS) : With the rejection of nomination of independent candidate Mahesh Chandra Sharma ten candidates of ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and two of Samajwadi Party (SP) are all set to be elected unopposed in the Uttar Pradesh MLC poll for 12 seats.
According to the Returning Officer BB Dubey the nomination papers of Mahesh Sharma were rejected during scrutiny on Tuesday. Sharma had not backing of required proposers, he said adding that the receipt of payment of mandatory fees was also missing.
Now with the rejection of Mahesh Sharma’s nominations decks have been cleared for the unopposed election of 10 BJP and two SP candidates to the upper house. However, the formal announcement of the same to be made after the time of withdrawl of nominations will be over on January 21, said the Returning Officer.
The ten BJP candidates who have filed their nomination papers for MLC polls include party’s state unit head Swatantra Dev Singh, Dy CM Dr Dinesh Sharma, former IAS officer of Gujarat cadre Arvind Kr Sharma, Luxmana Acharya, Govind Narayan Shukla, Kunwar Manvendra Singh, Salil Bishnoi, Ashwini Tyagi, Dr Dharmaveer Prajapati and Surendra Chaudhary while the two SP nominees are Ahmed Hasan and Rajendra Chaudhary.
