UP MLC poll : Ten BJP candidates file nominations
Lucknow, 18 January (HS) : Ten Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates on Monday filed their nomination papers for MLC poll in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Dy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and other members of the cabinet were also present during the nomination.
All the ten candidates of BJP including party’s state unit head Swatantra Dev Singh, Dy CM Dr Dinesh Sharma, former IAS officer of Gujarat cadre Arvind Kr Sharma, Luxmana Acharya, Govind Narayan Shukla, Kunwar Manvendra Singh, Salil Bishnoi, Ashwini Tyagi, Dr Dharmaveer Prajapati and Surendra Chaudhary filed two sets of nomination papers before the returning officer.
Polling for 12 MLC seats will be conducted in UP on January 28. Today is the last date of nominations. Two candidates of Samajwadi Party, Ahmed Hasan and Rajendra Chaudhary filed their nomination papers on Friday.
An independent candidate Mahesh Sharma of Kanpur also filed nominations on Monday. With this nomination the number of candidates becomes 13 against 12 vacant seats. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on January 19 while the last date of withdrwal is January 21. If the candidature of all 13 candidates is found valid the polling will be conducted on January 28. In case any candidate will withdraw his name or his nomination is found in correct in scrutiny, all the remaining 12 candidates will be declared elected unopposed.
