UP Becomes Top Performer Under the Smart City Mission

Lucknow, 26 June  (HS) :      The State of Uttar Pradesh has been ranked as the top performer under the  Smart Cities Mission by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for its innovative and excellent works.

The results for Smart Cities Mission’s India Smart Cities Award Contest 2020 were announced on Friday .Uttar Pradesh grabs the number One position while Madhya Pradesh comes second on the list followed by Tamil Nadu.

Under the Smart City Mission, Agra stood at first place and Varanasi in third place among selected 100 smart cities of the country in different Stage-II cities.

In the various segments of the Smart City Awards, Agra has bagged the third position in the Economy Project Award and the second for the successful creation and excellent operation of Micro Skill Development Centers.

Similarly, in the Water Project Award, Varanasi got the first position for the environmental restoration (eco-restoration) of the river Assi. Varanasi Smart City has also ranked second under the Smart Cities City Leadership Award. Varanasi was awarded jointly with Kalyan Dombivli in the Covid Innovation Award category.

In the Stage IV category of these awards, Saharanpur has got the first position in the selected smart cities.

A total number of 10 cities from Uttar Pradesh were selected under the Government of India’s Smart City Mission in different rounds.

Lucknow was selected in the first round, Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi were in the second round, Prayagraj, Aligarh and Jhansi in the third round, Bareilly, Saharanpur and Moradabad in the fourth round.

In these cities, a total of 476 projects with a layout of Rs 9609 crore were selected under Smart City Mission Fund.

During the 6th Anniversary event, MoHUA announced the results of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2020. The event was presided by minister of housing and urban affairs Hardeep S. Puri.
