UP Assembly passes Unlawful Religious Conversion Bill
Lucknow, 24 February (HS) : The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday passed Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Bill by a voice vote. In order to curb Love Jihad the Yogi Cabinet had passed an ordinance to this effect on 24 November.
As per provision this ordinance had to be passed by the legislature within six month. Now the bill will become law after it would be passed in Legislature Council and it would be signed by the Governor.
Under Unlawful Religious Conversion Law if a person is convicted of doing forceful conversions for the sake of marriage, he shall face imprisonment of between one to five years with a minimum penality of Rs 15000.
