Trump’s ‘Gold Card’: A $5M ticket to U.S. Citizenship?

President Donald Trump announced a new “Gold Card” on Tuesday, offering immigrants a $5 million path to U.S. citizenship. He described it as a premium version of the Green Card, providing additional privileges.
“We’re gonna be selling a gold card. You have a green card, this is a gold card,” Trump said in the Oval Office while signing executive orders with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. “We’re putting a price of about $5 million on that card. It gives you Green Card privileges plus.”
He emphasized that the program would attract wealthy individuals who would contribute to the economy. “Wealthy people will buy this card. They’ll be successful, spend a lot of money, pay taxes, and create jobs,” he said.
Trump stated that the program would launch in two weeks. He dismissed the need for congressional approval but did not clarify how it would be implemented.
Possible Replacement for EB-5 Program
Commerce Secretary Lutnick suggested that the Gold Card could replace the EB-5 program. The EB-5 allows immigrant investors to secure Green Cards by investing in U.S. businesses. Lutnick noted that funds from the Gold Card might go directly to the government.
“The president said instead of the outdated EB-5 program, we’re introducing the Trump Gold Card,” Lutnick explained. “For $5 million, they can secure a Green Card, undergo vetting, and prove they are top-tier global citizens.”
Lutnick added that the initiative would benefit the economy. “They can come to America, invest, and we can use the funds to reduce our deficit,” he said.
The administration has not provided details on how the Gold Card process will work. However, Trump remains confident that the plan will bring significant financial benefits to the country.
