Trump set to ban transgender troops with Executive order: Report

President-elect Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order removing transgender individuals from the U.S. military, according to reports. This directive could force out approximately 15,000 transgender service members. Sources reveal the military, already struggling with recruitment, would lose personnel in critical roles. Only the Marine Corps meets recruitment targets, highlighting the impact of such a decision.

Trump reclaimed the White House on November 5, defeating VP Kamala Harris. He is set to take office in January. If signed, the new directive could surpass the restrictions of Trump’s first-term policy, which barred transgender individuals from joining the military but allowed those already serving to remain. The new order might lead to the complete removal of transgender personnel, regardless of their health, service record, or rank.

Critics argue this move undermines military readiness. A social media user questioned, “Why remove those willing to serve when recruitment struggles persist?” Others voiced support, citing budget concerns and logistical challenges. A pro-Trump supporter claimed, “Transgender soldiers create unnecessary expenses but deserve honorable discharges for their service.”

Beyond the military, Trump aims to restrict transgender rights across other sectors. In education, his administration could exclude transgender students from Title IX protections, affecting policies on pronouns, restrooms, and locker rooms. Healthcare access for transgender minors may face new barriers, as Trump proposes removing Medicaid and Medicare coverage for gender-affirming care. In sports, Trump supports laws barring transgender women and girls from competing in women’s events, reflecting the stance of 24 states with similar restrictions.

These policies mark a sharp shift from President Biden’s approach. In 2021, Biden overturned Trump’s initial military ban within his first week in office. Trans-rights activists now fear the reinstatement of broad bans and limitations, including restricted access to gender-affirming care for military members and veterans.

As Trump prepares to take office, debates over transgender rights intensify. Supporters argue for stricter regulations, while critics warn of the harm such measures could cause to individuals and institutions alike. Transitioning into his second term, Trump’s administration appears poised to implement sweeping changes that could reshape the landscape for transgender Americans.
