Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin took a dig at the Centre’s proposed delimitation plans, urging newlyweds to have children immediately. Speaking at a wedding in Nagapattinam, Stalin said he once advised couples to wait before starting a family, but now, with delimitation looming, that approach must change.

He blamed the Centre’s plan for potentially reducing Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation, despite the state’s success in family planning. He urged couples to name their children with traditional Tamil names.

The DMK has consistently opposed delimitation, arguing it unfairly disadvantages southern states like Tamil Nadu. Stalin fears the move will reduce the region’s influence in Parliament, despite its economic contributions and effective population control.

BJP spokesperson CR Keshavan slammed Stalin’s remarks, calling them a desperate attempt to divert attention. He challenged the DMK to question Rahul Gandhi’s stance on population-based representation and accused the party of misgovernance.

Stalin also criticized the Centre for imposing the National Education Policy (NEP), which he believes forces Hindi on non-Hindi states. He called for unity against delimitation, inviting all political parties to a meeting on March 5.

He urged even BJP-aligned parties to join, stating that delimitation affects the entire state, not just the DMK. While some parties declined the invitation, Stalin emphasized the need for collective action to protect Tamil Nadu’s rights.
