The World Book Fair that marked Dr Birbal Jha
New Delhi, 12/01/2020 The 28th edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) saw a special presence of Bihar born scholar Dr Birbal Jha addressing a gathering of around a hundred authors and booklovers on January 10, 2020.
Much highlighted fair inaugurated by Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on 4th of January 2020 concluded on 12th of the month at Pragati Maidan of the capital city on a very positive note.
The theme of the fair was Writers’ Writer: Gandhi, from whom taking a source of inspiration for pursuits of writing skills and mass communication, Dr Birbal with a Sanskrit maxim -विद्वत्वं च नृपत्वं च न एव तुल्ये कदाचन्। स्वदेशे पूज्यते राजा विद्वान् सर्वत्र पूज्यते- explained to the enlightened audience, “there cannot ever be a comparison between a scholarship and rulership. A ruler is honoured in his territory only whereas a scholar is revered everywhere, irrespective of geographical boundaries”.
Dr Jha is of the opinion that each of us is expected to add value to this world. It could be many ways. The literary value is incomparable. There is often a great bearing of a book on our life as it impacts us in many ways. Hence, we should value writing a book or about a book.
“Books are the weapons by which we can eradicate the swirling fog of ignorance. What remains everlasting in this world is the presentation of our work and good deeds. Once we write something or something good is written about us is well recorded and documented in the form of a book or the like, it is handed down from generation to generation”, held Dr Jha.
“Every human being is born with unique features. A varying thumb impression is the most convincing example of it. Therefore, you must leave your indelible impression, not just merely giving a thumb impression of yours. When thinking of possibly doing so, one of the great things could be possibly writing a book or about it’ added Dr Jha while spurring the young generation on to get hold of their pen and write something lying in their hearts and minds.
The writing something about a book is the most valuable return gift to an author who takes pains to pen his/her thoughts, innermost feelings, perception or observation in this world” added Dr Jha.
In 1993, moved by the pathetic situation of his home state he coined the slogan, ‘English for all’ for his social venture – British Lingua with the mission of helping people, more particularly country’s youth avail themselves of the advantages of English communication skills that open the window on the world, offering the opportunities no end.
Apart from top communication skills trainer and Managing Director of British Lingua which has been able to help improve the lifestyles of lacs of students who were initially deprived of English education and employability skills, Dr Birbal Jha is a noted author, social entrepreneur, lyricist, linguist, columnist, social thinker-worker, cultural activist and crusader all rolled into one, thus read the announcement in NDWBF.
