Thailand Open: PV Sindhu out in first round
New Delhi, January 12 (HS): Thailand Open continues to bring bad news to India. After Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy got corona infected, now the country’s top shuttler PV Sindhu has lost in the first round.
Rio Olympics silver medalist Sindhu was defeated 21–16, 24–26, 13–21 by Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt in the first round.
Apart from Sindhu, B Sai Praneeth has also lost in the first round. Praneeth was beaten by Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-16 21-10 in straight sets.
However, a good news also came for Indian fans on Tuesday, as mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj and Ashwini Ponnappa defeated Indonesia’s Hafiz Fazal and Gloria Widjaja by 21-11, 27-29, 21-16.
Earlier, Olympic bronze medalists Saina and Prannoy kept out of the tournament after being infected with the coronavirus. Apart from this, Saina’s husband Parupalli Kashyap also gave a walkover to his opponent and he too got out of the tournament.
