Terrorist shot in Jammu: two militants killed in ongoing operation
A terrorist hiding in a village in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu was killed during a gunfight that erupted on Tuesday morning. Security forces launched a final assault against militants holed up in the area, according to officials.
So far, two terrorists have been neutralized, and efforts continue to locate a third associate hiding in the forest near the Assan temple in Jogwan village. The conflict began when one of the three terrorists fired at an army ambulance in a convoy near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday morning. Special forces and NSG commandos responded swiftly, killing one terrorist by the evening.
After a night of calm, security forces resumed their assault around 7 am in the Bhattal area of Khour, leading to a renewed gunfight. Officials reported a series of deafening explosions followed by intense gunfire, which lasted over an hour. During this exchange, the second terrorist was killed, while intermittent fire continued with the third trapped militant.
Tragically, a four-year-old army dog named Phantom lost its life after being struck by a bullet during the operation. The military is honoring Phantom’s bravery, as the dog played a crucial role in the operation.
In a strategic first, the Army deployed four BMP-II infantry combat vehicles to enhance surveillance and strengthen the cordon around the attack site. Additionally, helicopters and drones were utilized to locate the hiding terrorists, showcasing the military’s commitment to neutralizing the threat.
As the operation unfolds, security forces remain vigilant, determined to eliminate the remaining militant threat in the area. The ongoing efforts highlight the challenges faced by the military and their resolve to maintain security along the LoC.
