India’s victory over South Africa in the third T20I came with a thrilling 11-run win, giving India a 2-1 lead in the four-match series. The match in Centurion showcased a brand of cricket India wanted to play, according to skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Despite his own modest performance—scoring just one run from four balls—Suryakumar praised his team’s fearless approach.

In the post-match presentation, Suryakumar emphasized the importance of backing intent, especially for the young players. He noted that even when they miss a few innings, they stay confident in their skills.

He was particularly effusive in his praise for Tilak Varma, who played a match-winning knock. Suryakumar recalled how Varma had asked to bat at number three in Gqeberha, and he encouraged him to go for it, knowing his potential.

Varma’s 107* off 56 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes, was a highlight of the game, and Suryakumar confirmed that he would be batting at three going forward.

South Africa won the toss and opted to field. India’s opening pair, Abhishek Sharma (50 off 25 balls) and Tilak Varma, set a strong foundation, helping India post a challenging 219/6. While other batters faltered, the duo’s efforts ensured a high total. Proteas bowlers Andile Simelane and Keshav Maharaj claimed two wickets each.

In response, Heinrich Klaasen (41 from 22 balls) and Marco Jansen (54 from 17 balls) launched an aggressive chase, but Arshdeep Singh’s three wickets for 37 runs helped India maintain control. Varun Chakravarthy supported with two wickets. Despite the Proteas’ late charge, India held their nerve to secure the win.

Tilak Varma was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his spectacular innings, which steered India to victory and earned him much praise from his captain.
