Amritsar, December 15 (H.S.): The post of president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) remains in Badal family. Once again Sukhbir Singh Badal has been elected unanimously President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the third time. A delegate sessions was held at the Teja Singh Samundari Hall on the 99th foundation day, in which nearly 600 party delegates assembled there to join the election of party president.
A 57 year old former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab becomes the president of SAD for the third time in a row. Senior Akali leader Jathedar Tota Singh proposed the name of Sukhbir Singh Badal, while leader Prem Singh Chandumajra and Jagmeet Singh Brar endorsed his name. No other leader propose any name for president post. Present delegates gave approval, paving the way for Sukhbir Singh Badal to continue at the helm of the party that was founded on the same day in 1920.
Prakash Singh Badal could not able to attend the meeting due to ill health, but he sent a message conveying his inability to attend the session.
As it was apprehension, duo father and son ( Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa MP and his son MLA Parminder Singh Dhindsa) were conspicuous by his absence .
The special session at the SGPC headquarters began at 1pm after the bhog (culmination) ceremony of the Akhand Path (48-hour recitation of Guru Granth Sahib). Sukhbir was presented a ‘siropa’ (robe of honor) on the occasion.
Union minister and Sukhbir’s wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal was among the first to congratulate the former deputy chief minister on his re-election.
