Benchmark Indian equity indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 declined at the opening bell on Wednesday amid mixed global cues. The BSE Sensex fell by 153 points, or 0.19%, to 80,215. Meanwhile, the Nifty 50 decreased by 70 points, or 0.29%, to 24,396.

Globally, markets in the Asia-Pacific region showed mixed results. South Korea’s Kospi and Australia’s ASX 200 traded in the red, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose by 0.94%, and the Topix increased by 0.6%. Conversely, South Korea’s Kospi fell by 0.52%, while the small-cap Kosdaq was down slightly.

On Tuesday, global stock indices mostly rose. The Nasdaq reached a record closing high ahead of key earnings reports this week. Additionally, Treasury yields hit multi-month highs early, as the US presidential election looms just a week away.

Investors are cautious due to these global trends. They closely monitor upcoming earnings reports for insights into market performance. Overall, the mixed signals from international markets add uncertainty to the trading day in India.
