Chennai, June 25 (HS)
Southern railway has introduced contactless ticket checking system to avoid direct contact between passengers and railway personnel.

The noted establishment installed Automated Ticket Checking and Managing Access (ATMA) system at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Chennai Central Railway Station recently.

This system will facilitate verification of ticket, body temperature and face mask of passengers entering and exiting the station premises.

ATMA has a web camera affixed on the enquiry desk at the entry points of the station. Passengers will show their ticket and ID proof to the camera, after which the image will be displayed on the monitor. With this, the officials sitting at the enquiry desk could easily check the documents without any physical contact. Once ticket verification is done, the passenger will be allowed to enter the station premises for further screening.

That is not all, the system also had thermal scanner-cum-camera, which will record the image and body temperature of the passenger. As the passenger begins walking towards the camera, their temperature will be detected by the sensor. If the sensor shows green, the passenger will be allowed to board the train but if the red colour is displayed, the passenger will be subjected to further screening.

This system can screen more than one passenger at a time only to save time and avoid crowds at the entrance. Sources say voice response system will also be installed soon.

This new system will soon be installed at other major stations in Chennai division of Southern Railway like Arakkonam and Katpadi in a phased manner.
