Southern Railway begins C-19 vaccination

Tamil Nadu: Chennai, January 22 (HS):Southern Railway zone of Indian Railways too joined the whole nation in taking up immunization programme against COVID-19.
The immunization began yesterday at Southern Railway Headquarters Hospital at Perambur in Chennai targeting healthcare personnel and frontline workers in the first phase.
General Manager of Southern Railway John Thomas inaugurated the immunization program in the presence of BG Mallya, Additional General Manager of Southern Railway and Dr. V. Nirmala Devi, Principal Chief Medical Director and Dr MSHemalatha, City Medical Officer, Greater Chennai Corporation.
General Manager thanked the Greater Chennai Corporation officials for extending their best co-operation in the supply of vaccine to railway hospital.
He expressed pride in the altruistic service rendered by the Healthcare Staff during pandemic times.
Dr. CVN Murthy, Medical Director, Perambur Railway Hospital was the first to receive the dose of COVID-19 vaccination.
Dr. Soumitra Sinha Roy who is spearheading the fight against COVID-19, Dr. J. Chitra, Additional Chief Health Director, Nodal Officer for Covid-19 vaccination and healthcare workers of Southern Railway Hospital, Perambur, ICF Hospital and Health Units of Chennai division were also vaccinated.
The Hospital has the facility of Walk-in-cooler which will help in storing the vaccine in the recommended temperature range of 2 to 8 ° C.
A seperate facility has been created at Railway Hospital (Perambur) where the where the vaccination program will be carried out.
This vaccination center is fully equipped to administer vaccines for 100 beneficiaries on a daily basis.
Four Vaccination officers are posted in the location. Vaccination Officer-I posted at the entry point will ensure that the beneficiaries entering the Vaccination Center has received the vaccination schedule through SMS and duly adhering to all COVID standard operating protocols.
Vaccination Officer-II will scrutinize the credentials of the beneficiaries against the list of registered beneficiaries available in the CoVID Portal and authorize vaccination.
Then the beneficiary will be guided to the vaccination room where the vaccination will be administered by the Vaccination Officer-III.
After administration of the vaccine the beneficiary will be mandated to wait in the Observation Hall for about 30 minutes for reporting of any difficulties if any experienced under the supervision of Vaccination Officer-IV.
An exclusive observation facility under an anesthetist and a physician are set up at vaccination center with beds, oxygen supply and ventilators to render supportive care to manage any adverse reactions that may occur after vaccination.
