Some Jamaatis’ actions are incomprehensible and undefendable
Lucknow, April 06 (HS) Uttar Pradesh where the number of Corona positive cases was slow to rise and which was away from the spotlight has become a new hotspot largely due to Jamaatis who fanned out to different parts of the state after meeting in Delhi. The number crossed 300-mark on Monday.
What has surprised most is that most of them were hiding in different mosques and had neither informed the government nor neighboring doctors to know whether they were Corona positive. Then of them were taken out from a mosque in Lucknow today.
Muslim leaders say many things in defense. One of them is that they were hiding, fearing hard police actions. Most of others disagree and call their actions “deliberate” to discredit Narendra Modi in particular and the central government in general.
“They are acting like suicide-bombers. Most of them knew that it is a contagious disease and social distancing can help contain it. Still, they moved out from Delhi to as far as Maharashtra, Assam and Telangana, contacting many people on the way and many more after reaching the destination. This is unacceptable “, a die-hard Modi supporter said.
Whatever may be the reason for moving out and hiding, it is a fact that the number of cases registered a sharp rise after religious congregation in Delhi and their movement outside. In UP the number had not crossed 50-mark for many early days. There was a sudden spurt after the meeting was over and the religious leaders and preachers visited other areas. Many of them were carriers.
In defense it is being said that they were not hiding but waiting for buses and other vehicles which were not available because of lockdown. It is not true. order was issued a few days later banning assembly of more than 50 persons. The lockdown was not imposed then and movement was largely free.
Why did not many foreigners who had joined the meeting return to their respective countries? The country went on a lockdown on March 24-25.But more than a thousand of them were in the building till as late as March 29.They had not moved out on their own even then. They were forced to vacate to sanitize the building and the areas surrounding it.
Many of them have done another wrong. They had come on tourist visas but attending religious functions and had indulged in religious acts. All this is against the visa rules.
Some of their other actions are also condemnable. In Ghaziabad near Delhi but in the state of UP, for example, some of them are reported to have misbehaved with nurses and spat at different places in the medical ward.Spitting at these place is prohibited. It is usually known. They cannot be unaware.Still, they went on doing it.They stopped only when additional force was deployed.
In Rampur district, several infected persons who had joined the Jamaat demanded Chicken Biriyani for lunch and dinner. Did they not know that it is not provided in a general hospital wards?
Some of them have jumped the quarantine and joined their families. They have put not only the lives of their families but also of others at risk. All this deserves condemnation and is undefendable.
