Smart shower brings relief to Kolkata
Kolkata, Jun.18 (HS): Providing a huge relief from the past few days’ unbearable heat and humid condition, a smart shower today lashed this City of Joy and its neighboring areas this evening bringing the much awaited respite to the people.
According to the local Met office, the Entire South Bengal which was reeling under a tremendous heat wave for the past one week with the day’s maximum temperature soaring to as high as 39.6 degree Celsius on Saturday and was hovering around 38 to 39 degree celsius for the past two days, heaved a sigh of relief after a moderate rain lashed the city for sometime this evening.
As a result the evening temperature has come down by at least three degree celsius providing the much needed relief to the people.
Though monsoon has already reached North Bengal with most of the districts experiencing heavy to very heavy rain for the past three days, it might take another two to three more days for monsoon to arrive in South Bengal, the Met office said and described today’s rain as a result of a temporary depression over the Southeast regions of Jharkhand and Bihar.
Since this was not a monsoon rain, we expect the overall temperature might again shoot up tomorrow by a few degree, the Met office said but hoped that monsoon would formally make its entry to South Bengal either on Friday or Saturday.
As the rain started, many people including many youth who could not bear the brunt of such hot and humid weather for the past few days, instead of running towards shelter, drenched themselves in rain while looking for more in joy.
