Six BSF jawans affected by Covid-19, admitted to hospital
Kolkata,06 May(HS): Causing more concern among the security forces in the country, at least 6 jawans of the Border Security Force(BSF), posted at the BSF’s Eastern Zonal Headquarters in the city, have tested positive of Covid-19 and admitted to hospital, while about 50 of their colleagues in the same force have been sent to self Quarantine as a preventive step.
According to BSF sources here today, the 6 jawans who accompanied one of the Central Teams which came to the city recently, to several South Bengal districts as Security guards, tested positive of Coronavirus today after they developed early symptoms of the disease including fever and dry cough.
All 51 other Jawans who came in contact with these jawans at different times at the headquarters were immediately sent to self-quarantine in their quarters here as a preventive step, the sources informed.
These six jawans who moved in a BSF vehicle like the Pilot Car of the Central team in South Bengal which visited a number of Covid-19 affected areas of South and North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Howrah and Hooghly districts for about 10 days, developed their symptoms almost simultaneously since yesterday and immediately sent for testing where their reports were found positive, the sources said adding that all of them were admitted to city’s main Covid-19 government hospital for treatment.
Steps were being initiated to sanitize the entire BSF Eastern Headquarters at Gurusaday Road in South Kolkata since this morning and all steps were being taken to prevent further spread of the disease among other jawans, the sources stated further. Among the six affected four were jawans and two car drivers.
However, it is not yet known about the condition of health of the six-member Central team headed by Arup Chanda, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, who returned to Delhi on 4 May after staying in the city for ten days and visiting a number of Red and Containment zones in South Bengal.
