Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is critical of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy saga. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which holds the hosting rights, initially pushed to host the entire tournament in Pakistan. However, after recent discussions with the ICC, they have softened their stance and agreed to a hybrid model.

This model would involve some matches being held in Pakistan and others in Dubai. Despite this, the PCB has demanded that all future ICC events held in India also follow a hybrid model.

Akhtar, speaking to a Pakistani channel, supported the PCB’s demand for a larger share of the revenue, given the change to a hybrid model. However, he disagrees with the PCB’s refusal to send the Pakistan team to India for future ICC events. He believes that Pakistan should play in India and, more importantly, beat them on their home ground.

Akhtar stated, “You are getting paid for hosting rights and revenue, and that’s fine. Pakistan’s stance is also reasonable, and they should have maintained a strong position.” But, he added, “Once we are able to host the Champions Trophy and they refuse to come, they should share the revenue at a higher rate. That’s a good call.”

He emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, saying, “In terms of playing in India in the future, we should extend a hand of friendship and go there. My belief has always been, go to India and defeat them there. Play in India and beat them on their home ground.”

The latest discussions around the Champions Trophy suggest that, if India progresses, their matches will be held in Dubai. If India doesn’t reach the knockout stages, both semi-finals and the final will be played in Pakistan.

Akhtar’s comments underline his belief in sportsmanship, while also urging the PCB to focus on building a team strong enough to compete and win in India.
