Shiv Sena-UBT seeks ‘Kangana-level’ security for Kunal Kamra amid rising cases

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut demanded special protection for comedian Kunal Kamra, similar to what BJP MP Kangana Ranaut received. Raut argued that since the Maharashtra government granted Ranaut security after her rift with Shiv Sena, Kamra deserved the same.
Mumbai police registered more cases against Kamra for allegedly defaming Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his stand-up act. Authorities booked him under sections 353 and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Complaints came from Shiv Sena leaders in Jalgaon, Nandgaon, and Manmad, who claimed Kamra insulted Shinde.
Kamra, a Tamil Nadu resident, secured anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court until April 7. He cited threats from Shiv Sena workers as a reason for not approaching Maharashtra courts immediately. He also presented newspaper reports as evidence of public threats.
Mumbai police issued two summons to Kamra since filing the first FIR on March 24. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi defended the comedian, questioning why politicians viewed satire as a personal attack. Owaisi pointed out that Kamra never mentioned Shinde by name.
“Kamra is a comedian, not a politician. He has no election ambitions. Shinde and his party made it personal. The real ‘gaddar’ is one who applies the law selectively,” Owaisi said.
The controversy continues as Kamra faces legal pressure and political criticism. His case raises concerns over freedom of speech and selective law enforcement in Maharashtra.
