Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former president Pranab Mukherjee, recently targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s loyalists and her brother, Abhijit Mukherjee. This came days after she criticized the Congress for not convening a CWC meeting after her father’s death.

Sharmistha challenged Rahul Gandhi’s supporters who had labeled Pranab Mukherjee a “Sanghi” for visiting the RSS office. She dared them to question Rahul’s 2018 hug of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Parliament debate, a move that contradicted the previous accusations made by his mother, Sonia Gandhi, who had called Modi “maut ka saudagar.”

Sharmistha posted on social media, expressing her disdain for what she called “vicious fools & sycophants” in Congress, while boldly inviting further criticism from her detractors.

The clash extended to her brother, Abhijit Mukherjee, who had defended the absence of controversy over former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s death, stressing the respect due to his legacy. Abhijit also addressed Sharmistha’s complaints about the lack of a CWC meeting after their father’s passing.

He argued that the COVID-19 restrictions during that period had hindered large gatherings, and he reiterated that Congress had acknowledged the oversight.

Sharmistha responded sharply, accusing Abhijit of prioritizing personal gain over integrity. She took to social media, calling him “dented-painted” and criticizing his eagerness to rejoin a party that, in her view, had disrespected their father.

Her remarks appeared to reference a previous controversial comment by Abhijit in 2012, when he had insulted Nirbhaya gangrape protesters, fueling further tension between the siblings.

This public feud highlights deeper rifts within the Mukherjee family and the Congress party, as Sharmistha remains outspoken about her father’s legacy and the political landscape.
