Seven members of family attempt self immolation outside UP Assembly

Lucknow, 05 February (HS) :      Seven members of a family from Hardoi district attemted to immolate themselves outside the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in Lucknow here on Friday. However they were prevented by the police personnel present there on the occasion. Land dispute was stated to be the cause behind the extreme step.

According to the police Rajaram, Umesh Yadav, Veeru Yadav, Usha Devi, Maya and others resident of Dhannupurva village of Hardoi district reached infront of the assembly here today and tried to immolate themselves. While they were pouring kerosene the police personnel deployed outside the assembly caught them. They were later taken to the Hazaratganj police station, police said.

On being interrogated one of them Rajaram told the police that some powerful people were trying to grab their house located at Dhannupurva village and the local police is not taking any action in the matter.
