SER served around 30,000 meals to poor and needy
Kolkata,07 April(HS): Joining thousands of others across the country, Kolkata headquartered South Eastern Railway has now come forward to help the poor and needy residents living in and around several railway quarters by providing them cooked food and edible items for the past few days.
This is being done in addition to SER’s prime responsibility of ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential commodities during the present critical time by running freight Trains and Parcel Trains round the clock, said SER sources here today.
They said during the current locked down period since the outbreak of COVID-19, the Railway Protection Force of SER in association with IRCTC and different NGOs were serving about 6815 packets of lunch and dinner on daily basis to the poor and needy living and around all railway quarters in Kharagpur, Adra, Ranchi and Chakradharpur divisions.
Since the beginning of lockdown, nearly 30,000 lunch and dinner packets had so far been distributed among the needy and poor, the sources stated further.
South Eastern Railway Bharat Scouts and Guides are also playing a pivotal role during this crisis period as its members visited several slum areas and played an active role in ensuring the supply of food packets and essential commodities to the slum dwellers.
All of them, however, took the necessary protective measures and had been maintaining the social distancing as per the requirement, they said.
