SER maintains round the clock freight movement for supply of goods

Kolkata, 28 March (HS): In spite of countrywide lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, South Eastern Railway has been maintaining around the clock  supply and transportation of essential commodities to different parts of the country by running goods trains both day and night.

Informing this SER sources here today said  of about 74 rakes were being loaded everyday for the past one week, 45 rakes were being despatched from different centres carrying essential commodities to other parts of the state as well as  the country.

Among other major components of  goods which were also being loaded comprised  petroleum, coal, iron ore, steel and cement , they said.

To keep the power generation operational round the clock during the three week long  lockdown period,uninterrupted supply of coal to all coal based power plants were also being maintained by SER on priority basis, the sources said.

Moreover, altogether 140 rakes carrying essential and other commodities are being moved everyday to different destinations, the sources said and hailed the efforts of all officials of Freight Operations and other employees of the Railway for working round the clock to keep the supply chain moving during this critical period.
