Security tightened after Udaipur Royal family clash
The streets outside Udaipur Palace were deserted today following a clash over BJP MLA Vishvraj Singh Mewar’s denied entry into the palace. Singh, the newly anointed Maharana of Mewar, had come to offer prayers at temples managed by his cousin, Dr. Lakshay Raj Singh, and his uncle, Shreeji Arvind Singh Mewar. When he was blocked from entering the city palace, his supporters became angry, leading to stone-pelting.
In response, the administration implemented a three-tier security arrangement for Singh’s temple visit. The road leading to the Dhuni Mata Temple has been sealed, and the district administration has taken control of the disputed site. District Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal stated that if either party wishes to file a case, it will be processed.
The incident occurred after Singh’s recent coronation as the 77th Maharana of Mewar at Chittorgarh Fort. Seeking blessings from his family deity at Dhuni Mata Temple, Singh was denied access to the temple within the palace, managed by the Shree Eklingji Trust. The administration had set up barricades anticipating possible violence. However, Singh’s supporters attempted to break the barricades and clashed with palace security. The violence resulted in at least three injuries.
Singh called the situation “unfortunate” and emphasized that property disputes should not interfere with traditions. After standing with his supporters for hours, Singh left late at night after the administration assured him of access the following morning. He urged his supporters to remain peaceful and return the next day for a resolution.
The administration’s swift response and the new security measures aim to prevent further escalation of the tension, ensuring that Singh can peacefully visit the temple without further clashes.
