Security forces puts on high alert in Jammu ahead of Amarnath Yatra

Jammu, Jun. 18(HS): Security forces have been put on highest alert in Jammu ahead of Amarnath yatra especially in and around the yatra base camp at Bhagwati Nagar.

The 46 days Amarnath Yatra to begin on June 30, but security has been beefed up and an extensive and a foolproof plan have been prepared by security forces to ward off any threats.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Tajinder Singh told that they have made full proofed arrangements for yatra with sufficient deployments of forces and they are working with close coordination with all agencies.

Police has established different checkpoints in and exit points of the city where regular inspections were conducted while Central Reserve Police have been deployed in large number at base camp of yatra in Bhagwati Nagar.

Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Ramesh Kumar too said that the administration have made all the arrangements at Bhagwati Nagar base camp, including installation of CCTVs in view of Amarnath Yatra.

“The renovation work at base camp has also been completed by installing new air conditions in halls and facelift to washrooms,” the DC said.

Highly placed sources in the state’s Home department said, “Union Home Ministry has asked the state administration to ensure all security arrangements in place well ahead of start of Amarnath Yatra. Around 450 companies of paramilitary have been deployment in the state, from Lakhanpur to cave shrine, to defeat the nefarious designs of militants”.

Pertinently, Union Home Minister and BJP national president Amit Shah had chaired a high-meeting to review the security arrangements for annual pilgrimage of Amarnath Yatra especially against the backdrop of recent terror attack on CRPF convey in Anantnag that claimed the lives of five CRPF jawans and a officer of J&K police.
