School teacher arrested on charge of posting false claim in Social media

Konnagar(Hooghly)/Kolkata,14 April(HS): A lady school teacher was today arrested from her residence at Konnagar area and sent to jail on charges of posting a false and motivated ‘news’ on social media about a doctor blaming him for spreading deadly Corona virus in the locality.

According to the police, the school teacher Abantika Mitra without verifying facts and with an alleged deliberate motive to undermine the reputation of a local doctor posted a false news item in the social media platform today alleging that the doctor was found positive of COVID-19 and he was  in all likelihood would spread the disease among others in his neighbourhood.

Soon her post became viral and created panic among the local people about the possibility of the spread of corona virus in their locality.

She also urged the local Municipality to sanitize the entire area  to stop the spread of the disease.

But as the matter was brought to the notice of the local police, they immediately swung in to action and following an investigation  found that the news about the doctor,who was associated with a hospital in Howrah district was false and that there was not an iota of truth in the Social media post.

 

Soon police arrested the teacher on charge of spreading rumours and causing unnecessary panic about COVID -19.

After she was produced in the local court, the District Jugde remanded her to  three days imprisonment after the lady apologized and confessed her crime.

She said she did it without realising the gravity of the situation. The incident has created huge panic in the whole area which was later subsided and many people also apologized to the doctor for unknowingly  causing harm to his reputation.
