SC wants national plan on oxygen and drugs supply amid Covid-19 spread
New Delhi, 22 April (HS): The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Centre to make a ‘national plan’ on the supply of oxygen and essential drugs for the treatment of the Covid-19 infected patients across the country. The Apex Court took suo motu cognisance keeping in view the prevailing grim situation that has arisen due to pandemic.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde, and justices L.N.Rao and S.R. Bhat said it would also consider, besides the supply of oxygen and necessary drugs, the issue pertaining to method and manner of Covid-19 vaccination in the country.
The Bench said it would examine the aspect relating to power of the high courts to declare lockdown amid pandemic. The Court appointed senior advocate Harish Salve as an amicus curiae to assist it in the suo motu proceedings. The Bench issued to the Centre and said it would hear the matter on Friday.
