SC orders a big relief to dissident JDS-INC MLAs’
New Delhi,17 July(HS): The three members divisional bench of the Supreme Court headed by the chief justice Ranjan Gogoi today directed the Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Rameshkumar to act on the resignations submitted by 15 Janata Dal-Secular(JD-S) and Indian National Congress(INC) MLAs’ to the membership of the state Assembly within a time frame.
Today’s directive has been construed as a big relief to all the 15 dissident MLAs’ as it has ruled out that all the 15 legislators who have resigned and stayed away from the Assembly cannot be compelled to attend the proceedings of the house.
The three members bench has also asserted that the issue of disqualification of all 15 legislators who have resigned has to be dealt with the speaker and has refused to pass any orders in this context.
According to today’s orders of the apex court, the vote of confidence motion moved by HD Kumaraswamy, chief minister can be taken up tomorrow morning at 11 am as scheduled and has refused to intervene in the matter.
