Saurav Ganguly and other sports luminaries promised their support to the PM
Kolkata,03 April(HS): BCCI President and former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly today participated in a video conference with Prime minister Narendra Modi as part his decision to hold talks with 40 top sportspersons from various disciplines across the country to discuss the COVID-19 situation and seek their all-out support and assistance in spreading the message for a united fight.
The Prime minister who in his third address to the Nation earlier today sought the wholehearted cooperation from the country’s 1.2 billion people by expressing their solidarity in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus unitedly and urged them to put off all lights of every household at 9.p.m.on next Sunday – 5 April- and instead light candles and torches for 9 minutes, reportedly told each of the 40 eminent sports personnel to extend their wholehearted support to the government efforts in their fight against the deadly disease.
Each of them was also reportedly requested to help make the general public aware of the gravity of the current situation and necessity to remain in the locked-down condition till 14 April not only to protest themselves from the deadly virus but also their families, friends and all other countrymen.
‘You with your very wide and large support base and fans could play a positive role in convincing the people about the importance of remaining indoors and strictly maintain a social distancing to help prevent the disease from spreading further,’ the Prime minister reportedly told each of the 40 sports luminaries.
Besides Ganguly, the Prime minister held similar video conferencing with other legendary players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Virendra Sehwag, K L Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteswar Pujara, P V Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, their coach Gopichand, Sania Mirza, Viswanathan Anand, P T Usha, Bachedri Paul and several others.
All of them extending their full and unconditional support to the government efforts in containing the disease promised to do the best as desired by the Prime minister.
