Sachin’s world class cricket was worth watching: Sanjay Manjrekar
New Delhi,18 May(HS): Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar praised legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar and said that the way Sachin used to dominate the world-class attack at the young age of 17 was worth watching.
Manjrekar said in an Instagram conversation with Indian team off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, “Sachin Tendulkar made his debut in the year 89. Within a year, he hit 80 against New Zealand. He scored his first century against England in 91/92. The whole world was looking at him with expectations. Age was always an issue, he was only 17 years old. The way he dominated the world-class attack was worth watching. For us, there was no doubt in the team that this player is a different level player.”
He said that unfortunately by 96/97 the team had become heavily dependent on Sachin as he was playing with great consistency and was the first player in India to dominate and score runs on good balls as well.
Manjrekar said that till then the Indian team was known for defensive batting, which used to send out bad balls, like Sunil Gavaskar, for some session he gave respect to the bowler and then he would throw the bad ball after the bowler gets tired. Sachin used to send the best bowler’s ball to the boundary.
