RTE lottery fulfills educational dream of poor kids
PRAYAGRAJ, April 9 (HS): When Aarav’s name was drawn in the first lottery under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2021-22, his dream of attending a private school came true. A total of 34,483 schools and 4 lakh RTE seats were mapped this year.
“The application process commenced from March 2 and continued till March 25. Under the RTE Act, it is mandatory for private schools to admit 25% students of the total strength from BPL. The admission process is completed when the lotteries are conducted on the applications. The applications were verified from March 26 to March 28. The lottery system was conducted on April 7 and students will be admitted in the schools in April month itself, when the school reopens,” Vijay Kiran Anand said while speaking to HS. Like Aarav, 54,727 children were allotted seats in unaided private schools across the state. UP basic education department had received over 1 lakh applications from across the state on RTE portal. After verification by respective basic shiksha adhikaris, 81,861 applications were found to be complete and eligible for lottery. From verified applications, 54,727 children were allotted schools across 75 districts.
