River Noa overflows, several villages flooded

Udalguri, July.16 (HS): The River Noa under Kalaigaon Revenue Circle in Udalguri District of Assam has overflowed due to incessant rains and several villages were flooded on Tuesday. In Kalaigaon area, Noa River has overflowed due to heavy rainfall since past few days resulting in flash floods. The flood-affected villages are Rupatal, Bhehguri, Balipara, Hapabari, Gerua, No.2 Amguri, Habibhanga, No.2 Kalaigaon and Sagunbahi.

Villagers of these areas said that they demanded immediate repair of the old embankment of Noa River which several portion was ravaged by floods west side of the River in Kalaigaon. The embankment along with the river had given way under the mounting pressure of flood waters and it may be damaged at any time. Moreover water has entered several houses and about 50 families have not been able to cook their meals during the day. Thousands bighas of standing crops were destroyed.

Knee-deep water was also seen on the main road namely Mekenzi at Bhehguri where the communication link had been cut-off tolaly. Farther an RCC bridge of Khampahola Mandir was also washed away by floods and another RCC slept culvert on road Kalaigaon to Udalguri had been also washed away.

So the vital communication link to head quarter Udalguri had been cut-off. Dilip Kr. Das, DC of Udalguri was informed by flood affected people for this situation and he ask the water resource officials to visit the area to take the measure. But people alleged that no authority visited the spot and they didn’t take necessary steps for repair of this embankment.

Moreover, Maheswar Baro, MLA of Kalaigaon LAC and BTC Speaker Tridip Daimary visited the areas and they assured the people that they would try to solve the problem permanently. They also ask the authority concerned to take immediate measure for these flood affected area.
