Restoring Article 370 is off the table; J&K Assembly’s resolution risks dividing India: BJP
The BJP criticized the recent resolution passed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, calling it an attempt to divide India. The Assembly’s resolution, pushed by the National Conference (NC) and its allies, demands the restoration of Article 370, which previously granted special status to J&K.
The BJP argued that this resolution not only undermines Parliament and the Supreme Court’s decision to revoke Article 370 but also aligns with extremism and terrorism.
Smriti Irani, a senior BJP leader, voiced strong opposition at a press conference. She stated that the resolution reflects the Congress-led INDI Alliance’s support for divisive forces, posing a threat to national unity.
Irani emphasized that the BJP would not allow these efforts to succeed, asserting that the abrogation of Article 370 brought stability to the region, reducing terror incidents by 70% and deaths by 80%.
The BJP expressed concern over the NC-led coalition’s priorities, accusing it of neglecting development in favor of divisive agendas.
Irani questioned if the Congress and its allies stood against the economic and constitutional interests of J&K and the rights gained by tribal communities, Dalits, OBCs, women, and children post-Article 370 revocation. She argued that the demand for special status serves only politicians, not the people of J&K.
During Assembly proceedings, BJP members protested the resolution. The Speaker ordered three BJP MLAs to be removed from the Assembly. Addressing this, Irani voiced her outrage, claiming that the INDI Alliance, led by Congress, opposes the Constitution and Supreme Court.
She questioned if the Congress, especially the Gandhi family, supports terrorism and opposes J&K’s development.
Irani urged the Congress to clarify if it stands against the valiant efforts of Indian armed forces who work tirelessly to protect the nation.
She also questioned if the Congress-backed INDI Alliance stands for a united India or supports actions that threaten national integrity. The BJP’s firm stance underscores its commitment to safeguarding unity and preventing any attempts to reinstate Article 370.
